CO₂ Equivalent (Carbon Dioxide)

When considering and comparing the performance of data produced by a life cycle analysis (LCA) or environmental product declaration (EPD) one of the primary indices is the Global Warking Potential (GWP) which is measured in kilograms equivalent of carbon dioxide (kg CO₂ eq) - known as the CO₂ equivalent. This produces a useful yardstick by which to establish the characteristics of a system and compare the results with other products.

Performance Measures

Other performance measures include:

ODP:
Ozone Depletion Potential kg CFC11 equivalent, the equivalent risk to ozone depletion by ozone depleting gases such as CFCs, HFCs and HCFCs

AP:
Acidification Potential of land and water kg SO₂ equivalent, measurement of the change to the ph (acidity)

EP:
Eutrophication potential kg PO₄³- equivalent, the presence of man made particles in the natural environment (for example micro-plastics in water tables)

ODP:
