The use of non-combustible insulation in gutters ensures compliance with insurance requirements for minimum limited combustibility, and also ensures building regulations for insulation in areas around compartment walls can be fully complied with (in particular Approved Document B section B3 relating to compartment walls which limits the types of insulation that can be used above a compartment junction).
Insulated gutters should always be designed with a higher (worse) psi value than the surrounding roof areas. This ensures a ‘pre-melt’ design in the event of an accumulation of snow. When the snow starts to melt this should always be in the gutter first, allowing meltwater to run into the drainage system.
