Quantity Surveyor - CA Roofing Services

Reporting to the Surveying Manager the post holder will take responsibility for a wide range of commercial projects within our busy contracting division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and agreeing valuations with clients and ensuring payments are received in accordance with subcontract agreements 
  • Preparing accurate take off of material quantities from drawings 
  • Follow procedures to ensure proper allocation of job cost 
  • Pricing of contract variations 
  • Preparing subcontractor payment certificates, calculation and allocation of subcontractor payments and updating spreadsheets accordingly 
  • Assist in the control of supply chain ensuring full visibility of liabilities 
  • Issue of subcontract enquiries, comparison of quotes, undertake negotiations and placing of comprehensive orders 
  • Contribute to the formulation of monthly financial reports 
  • Negotiation and agreement of final accounts with main contractor QS 
  • Cash flow forecasting across all contracts to project company turnover
  • Liaising with estimating, design, purchasing and contracts teams to ensure any changes and potential cost overspends are identified as soon as practicable, ensuring costs are recovered and future overspends avoided wherever possible 
  • Working with the Surveying Manager to provide cost control and reporting on individual contracts, as well as overview and cost management of all contracts for CA Roofing Services division 
  • Supervision and training of assistant / trainee QS 
  • General administration duties as required 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Confident personality with the ability to communicate across all disciplines and at all levels within the organisation 
  • Previous experience of working for a specialist sub-contractor essential 
  • Cladding knowledge preferred 
  • Pro-active, flexible approach with an ability to work to deadlines

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce design concepts, supporting sketches and fully detailed technical drawings for the design of a range of established façade types
  • Research and Development of existing systems and new innovations
  • Development of and updating existing drawings, design and detail new;
    • System specifications
    • Typical construction details
    • Associated components
  • Development and production of new and updating existing technical drawings and data to meet new regulations, designs, etc.
  • Project manage various subject matters from conception to completion, such as R&D of existing systems, innovations, etc.
  • Visit architects, specifiers etc. to discuss technical issues pertaining to product range
  • Liaise with production, planning and commercial teams
  • Manage structural testing, wind load testing, CWCT testing, etc.
  • Develop and deliver appropriate training plans & instructions to accommodate new product introductions
  • Assist with general day to day technical enquiries 
  • Support technical, commercial and contracting teams by attending meetings and/or site investigations, including reporting, etc.
  • Support external project development team
  • Manage day to day enquiries from architects, design & build contractors and façade contractors etc.by telephone and e-mail

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Qualified to minimum HNC standard in an engineering discipline and able to demonstrate a high level of expertise with rainscreen façade systems
  • Be fully conversant with AutoCAD 2D/3D.  Experience of the BIM environment would be preferred but not essential
  • Ability to engineer solutions from first principles, demonstrating the ability to undertake fundamental calculations to support the design concept
  • Knowledge or understanding of key building performance characteristics such as thermal, acoustic & structural
  • Previous experience in delivering multiple projects, ensuring deadlines and budgets are maintained
  • Previous experience of managing NPI projects preferable but not essential
  • Ability to positively influence and communicate with all team members
  • Excellent PC skills with specific knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer

It is essential that the successful candidate has extensive experience performing maintenance operations on conventional machines (Lathes / Milling Machinery).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports
  • Confer with engineers/contractors and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information
  • Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation
  • Provide feedback to managers with a degree of accuracy
  • Able to recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
  • Establish and co-ordinate the maintenance and safety procedures, service schedule and supply of materials required for maintaining machines and equipment in the prescribed condition
  • Collaborate with electrical/mechanical engineers and other personnel to identify, define and solve machine related problems.
  • Plant, equipment and building maintenance
  • Must have a can do, will do attitude

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Mechanically biased with electrical knowledge as an advantage
  • Previous experience of using lathes and milling equipment
  • Previous experience of working in a lean manufacturing background
  • Experience of working within a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work at height
  • Ability to work to deadlines, under pressure and unsupervised
  • Ability to manage projects to tight deadlines and to co-ordinate personnel
  • Quality and Health & Safety awareness
  • Experience on hydraulics and pneumatics systems
  • ONC/HNC educated in an electrical or mechanical discipline
