Project Development Engineer – CA Group Limited

CA Group Limited was founded in 1983 and is one of the UK’s leading metal roofing and cladding systems manufacturers and contractors for the industrial, commercial and public sectors, and refurbishment markets.

The role of the Project Development Team is to establish working relationships with architects, clients and developers as well as their professional teams, delivering technical excellence and demonstrating ability to provide solutions to their needs. This emphasis is proven to deliver stronger, more robust specifications, ensuring that our client’s requirements are achieved.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The management of clients/developer requirements within their architectural, consultant and contractor supply base. Development of client projects include;
    • System specifications
    • Reviewing drawings
    • Offering value engineering (VE) solutions
    • Providing budget rate
  • Development of strong long term relationships with Main Contractors, Architects, Cost Consultants and Project Managers, capable of managing and expanding the customer base
  • Working with the CA Group Technical Department to deliver solutions to overcome client issues, often through creative and adaptive approaches
  • Managing day-to-day enquiries from the industry – Main Contractors, Architects, Cost Consultants, Project Managers, etc. by telephone and email
  • Present CPD Seminars/Technical Workshops in a professional manner
  • Supporting the other members of the Project Development Team
  • Liaising with technical and commercial teams
  • Research and development of existing systems and new innovations

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Have experience in dealing with Main Contractors, Architects, Cost Consultants, Project Managers, etc. at all levels, building strong relationships, communicating well, assessing the needs of others to promote the products or services to suit both the customer and the company requirements
  • Be hard working, self-motivated with a proven track record in building customer relationships
  • Ideally have knowledge of the metal roofing and cladding industry and / or construction market
  • Be technically strong and comfortable with emerging technologies and changes to regulations
  • Must be prepared for extensive travel
  • Be experienced in AutoCAD, Windows Office Suite including PowerPoint and Excel

Quantity Surveyor - CA Roofing Services

Reporting to the Surveying Manager the post holder will take responsibility for a wide range of commercial projects within our busy contracting division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and agreeing valuations with clients and ensuring payments are received in accordance with subcontract agreements 
  • Preparing accurate take off of material quantities from drawings 
  • Follow procedures to ensure proper allocation of job cost 
  • Pricing of contract variations 
  • Preparing subcontractor payment certificates, calculation and allocation of subcontractor payments and updating spreadsheets accordingly 
  • Assist in the control of supply chain ensuring full visibility of liabilities 
  • Issue of subcontract enquiries, comparison of quotes, undertake negotiations and placing of comprehensive orders 
  • Contribute to the formulation of monthly financial reports 
  • Negotiation and agreement of final accounts with main contractor QS 
  • Cash flow forecasting across all contracts to project company turnover
  • Liaising with estimating, design, purchasing and contracts teams to ensure any changes and potential cost overspends are identified as soon as practicable, ensuring costs are recovered and future overspends avoided wherever possible 
  • Working with the Commercial Manager to provide cost control and reporting on individual contracts, as well as overview and cost management of all contracts for CA Roofing Services division 
  • Supervision and training of assistant / trainee QS 
  • General administration duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Confident personality with the ability to communicate across all disciplines and at all levels within the organisation 
  • Previous experience of working for a specialist sub-contractor essential 
  • Cladding knowledge preferred 
  • Pro-active, flexible approach with an ability to work to deadlines.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor - CA Roofing Services

An Assistant Quantity Surveyor is responsible for assisting the Quantity Surveyor with commercial projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the preparation of valuations with clients 
  • Assisting with the preparation of accurate take offs from drawings
  • Assisting with the identification and pricing of contract variations
  • Assisting with the preparation of subcontractor payment certificates
  • Assist in the control of supply chain ensuring full visibility of liabilities
  • Assist with the issue of subcontract enquiries, compare quotes, undertake negotiations and place comprehensive orders
  • Site visits to assess progress against plan
  • General administration duties within the QS department
  • Setting up and inputting data to standard spreadsheets
  • Monthly valuations
  • Surveying on one project from start to finish (with supervision)
  • Liaising with the main contractor’s QS to discuss variations, etc

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a similar financial discipline

Façade Engineer - CA Group Limited

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce design concepts, supporting sketches and fully detailed technical drawings for the design of a range of established façade types
  • Research and Development of existing systems and new innovations
  • Development of and updating existing drawings, design and detail new;
    • System specifications
    • Typical construction details
    • Associated components
  • Development and production of new and updating existing technical drawings and data to meet new regulations, designs, etc.
  • Project manage various subject matters from conception to completion, such as R&D of existing systems, innovations, etc.
  • Visit architects, specifiers etc. to discuss technical issues pertaining to product range
  • Liaise with production, planning and commercial teams
  • Manage structural testing, wind load testing, CWCT testing, etc.
  • Develop and deliver appropriate training plans & instructions to accommodate new product introductions
  • Assist with general day to day technical enquiries 
  • Support technical, commercial and contracting teams by attending meetings and/or site investigations, including reporting, etc.
  • Support external project development team
  • Manage day to day enquiries from architects, design & build contractors and façade contractors etc.by telephone and e-mail

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Qualified to minimum HNC standard in an engineering discipline and able to demonstrate a high level of expertise with rainscreen façade systems
  • Be fully conversant with AutoCAD 2D/3D.  Experience of the BIM environment would be preferred but not essential
  • Ability to engineer solutions from first principles, demonstrating the ability to undertake fundamental calculations to support the design concept
  • Knowledge or understanding of key building performance characteristics such as thermal, acoustic & structural
  • Previous experience in delivering multiple projects, ensuring deadlines and budgets are maintained
  • Previous experience of managing NPI projects preferable but not essential
  • Ability to positively influence and communicate with all team members
  • Excellent PC skills with specific knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Estimator - Roofing Services Division

CA Group Ltd requires an Estimator within their Roofing Services Division. The individual will require creativity to assess the quotation specification and formulate the most cost effective solution. The ideal candidate will take great pride in their work, possess a strong commercial focus and be a team player.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and develop close working relationships with clients, architects, contractors.
  • Prepare detailed estimates by gathering all data required to formulate budget costings.
  • The review and preparation of tender documents.
  • Present prepared estimates by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications.
  • Responsibility for estimating the total project cost, including design, procurement, manufacture and delivery.
  • Liaise with the external sales team to ensure leads and enquiries are managed in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Strive to retain existing clients and ensure the maximum longevity of your relationship with the Company through proactive contact and appropriate relationship development.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of three years’ experience within a similar role
  • Experience liaising with architects and main contractors
  • Excellent commercial awareness
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Good communication, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Experience within the Roofing and Cladding industry beneficial although not essential
